About EMBRIS

A console-like home for the games you own.

EMBRIS is an independent gaming platform currently focused on Raspberry Pi 5.

What EMBRIS is

EMBRIS is a gaming platform for playing supported DRM-free PC games on Raspberry Pi 5. It provides a controller-friendly library and prepares the technical setup for each supported game.

The focus is on indie, pixel-art and smaller PC games. You supply the game files; EMBRIS prepares them so you can launch them from your library.

Why I started

I wanted a simple way to play these games on a small computer. Many sit somewhere between the games associated with retro systems and those built for high-end gaming PCs.

Getting them running can involve manual setup and experimentation. EMBRIS brings that work into one platform, with compatibility documented game by game. The Compatibility page shows the builds and settings that have been physically tested.

Who is behind it?

I’m David Elin, a school principal in Denmark. Outside work, I enjoy games and exploring what technology can do. EMBRIS grew out of those interests.

I develop and maintain the project myself. My current focus is making the Raspberry Pi 5 experience stable, testing more games and preparing the first public release.

Looking ahead

In the longer term, I would like to bring EMBRIS to Linux-based handhelds. There are no confirmed devices or release dates, and Android is outside the planned scope.

I also hope to explore a charitable initiative providing complete EMBRIS systems to schools and communities with limited access to computer hardware. This is a personal ambition, not an established programme. For now, the priority is building and testing the platform.
